iPad and Kindle Fire Kick Start The Holidays With Competitive Early Sales

Apple’s iPad 2 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire have been battling head to head in terms of pre-holiday sales numbers. Amazon has stated that the Kindle Fire is by far its bestselling product to date. This handy seven inch tablet went on the market for pre-order in late September, with the initial devices being shipped out mid November. While we do know the sales have been quite high, as usual, Amazon has declined comment in regards to the precise sales data. However, the internet giant did let the cat out of the bag in a press conference by telling us that they had actually sold four times as many Kindle’s than they did on last year’s Black Friday.

Apple’s iPad 2 didn’t do so bad itself with at least 70% higher sales on an hourly basis this year than last. Of course this data has been confirmed by an analyst, Gene Munster who released a research memo on November 28th indicating that both ShopperTrak and comScore data showed a consistent spike in traffic and retails sales on Black Friday. The true test is going to be whether or not the Kindle Fire can hold out throughout the season in direct competition with one of the world’s most popular devices. In a recent online survey consisting of 1,000 people, results showed that 44% stated they would most definitely purchase a Kindle Fire over an iPad, 44% claimed an insufficient amount of knowledge about either product to make a choice, and the last 12% were still iPad loyalists.

Apple’s iPad has had a major monopoly on the consumer market for quite some time and the true test will be whether or not the Kindle Fire can continue to sell at its current rate. If it continues on this momentous path, there is a very good chance the Apple iPad 2 could lose out to the Kindle this holiday season. If this happens Apple could lose its edge this year for the first time in a long while.

During the year previous a variety of tablets which have been called “iPad killers” have been released with a strong start only to fizzle out and ultimately meet their demise as a result of bad reviews and horrible sales. Before the Kindle Fire was released Apple execs are rumored to have told Ben Reitzes, an analyst for Barclays Capital that the latest tablet by Amazon would show many of the same problems the others had shown. Apple seemed very confident that the Kindle Fire would not hold up against its product. Will Apple eat their words? That remains to be seen but so far the Kindle Fire seems to be showing favorable potential to compete.

Many experts believe that Apple will have no choice but to show aggression where price is concerned sometime in the near future, without compromising any of the quality found in the iPad. The new Kindle Fire contains a strongly modified Android interface, one that enables users to purchase e-books as well as streaming content from Amazon. Coupled, these advantages may just be the leverage Amazon needs to take the market this year.

iPhone iTether App is Approved by Apple then Pulled

For undisclosed reasons, Apple is said to have approved an app called iTether which enables iPhone users to share their wireless connections with their computers. However, in more recent news it seems Apple has abruptly changed their mind and pulled the app. This application, made by a Canadian owned company was the first tethering app to ever slip through the cracks, so to speak. Apple has never allowed this sort of technology and this came to a surprise to many iPhone users.

When asked about the incident in which the app was approved and almost immediately discontinued, a spokesperson for Apple said the company was not aware of the exact specs of the app upon approval. Conversely, the Canadian manufacturer of iTether claimed in a recent tweet that they were very clear with Apple when the app was presented and that they answered a multitude of questions about the app.

The cost of this app $14.99, was comparable to the Verizon and AT&T version of iTether which is priced at about $20 extra per month. Although the lower price seemed like a great deal, there were some problems with the app. Among the biggest was the fact that it only worked via USB connection, thereby eliminating the possibility of Bluetooth or Wi-Fi tethering. Speculation is that Apple did not believe this particular app would compete in terms of price and capability to other, superior tethering plans. For users who have become spoiled by wireless tethering, this may just be the case.

As soon as the app went live it is said that iTether’s home page was simply inundated with traffic to overwhelming proportions. The app seems to have authenticated with itether.com which meant whenever it was launched the service began to face issues. Because of this Tether.com stated that 20 extra servers were added to their site. It appears Tether.com was ill prepared for the response that would be seen by iPhone users.

Even if the future does hold an iTether app for Apple, in no way does this mean that the various carriers will not play around with the pricing. While specific carriers will not be able to hinder the app from working, they can certainly charge for extra data used. This could mean outrages monthly charges for people who use the app often enough.

Apple is bound to approve some sort of tethering app in the near future but the hope is that it will be affordable and in direct competition with the other similar apps available. No matter how much Apple seems to be adverse to this type of app, it is clear that at some point they will have to release a variation in order to keep up with the competition. No one knows just when Apple will consider another run with iTether but it is safe to assume that millions of people will be watching for the release of such an app. Apple has made no official comment in regards to when and if they may re-introduce a tethering application.

The holidays come quickly each year and as a result some people are left scrambling to find the things they need in order to make their shopping lists complete.  For those of us who cannot stand the exhaustion and drama that goes a long with hitting the mall on Black Friday, there is a really nice alternative. Cyber Monday takes place on the Monday directly after Black Friday, giving last minute shoppers or people who’d prefer to shop from home a shot at some really great deals on video gaming systems such as the PS3, Xbox30 and many more.

This is the best time of year to look for things like iPad, iPod Touch, laptops, notebooks, desktops and all sorts of other items that would normally be a lot pricier. Not only can you find the actual systems for a lot less but let us not forget about the accessories that we can pick up for half their normal price during the Cyber Monday online sale event. There may be some items that cannot be found with decreased prices this year such as the Kindle Fire but this has not been established 100%.

No matter what it is you are trying to shop for, always check several sites before making a commitment. Cyber Monday is a huge event and just about every store will participate. For this reason do not jump on the first price you think is going to be the lowest. Do some shopping, but by all means be sure you start bright and early Monday! There is a good chance so many people will be shopping for the same items you arte that if you don’t get in there early enough you could go on back order for lack of stock.

Here is a list of most desirable products on Cyber Monday:

Amazon Kindle Fire is the hottest Cyber Monday and Black Friday item on Amazon. Great performance and amazing price!

Black Friday 2011 Bundle: LittleBigPlanet 2 Special Edition and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One. This is a super buy for someone looking for PS3 and who is a fan of Ratchet and Clank adventures. You can enjoy Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One with up to 3 friends which adds up a lot to this already superb game!

Kinect Sensor with Kinect Adventures. If you already have XBox and want to immerse yourself into Kinect experience this deal is for you. Not only you get Kinect sensor but also “Kinect Adventures!” and token codes for downloadable versions of “Gunstringer” and “Fruit Ninja Kinect”.

Xbox 360 Console 4GB with Kinect Sensor. XBox topped sales charts for this 2011 Black Friday and will probably do it again for 2011 Cyber Monday. XBox offer is great and you won’t regret getting it this Cyber Monday.

Amazon Kindle DX is just $259 vs regular price of $379 on Amazon. Great deal if you like to read large format books on 9.7′ inch screen

Some of us are already in the loop and we know exactly what Cyber Monday is. In fact, some of us stopped shopping on Black Friday a long time ago because of it! For those of you coming in late let me explain Cyber Monday. Some years ago, around 2005, someone, somewhere, and we really don’t care who, decided that we should have a huge shopping event that is done exclusively online and call it Cyber Monday. This quickly became a trend in the online shopping world and now every year, the Monday that falls directly after Thanksgiving is termed Cyber Monday.

On this day millions of people all over the world get cozy at their computer and begin purchasing everything from PS3 gaming systems to brand new Plasma TV’s at a fraction of the price they are normally sold for. Cyber Monday allows you to save as much as 80% on some items, which when done from the comfort of your own home is pretty great! Xbox360’s, Kinect and even Kindles could be on the list of items found at discounted rates during the Cyber Monday sales event.

Forget about Black Friday, it has come and gone. Cyber Monday is knocking at your door and it’s high time you answered! Get online as early as you can Monday and find some of the greatest deals of your life. Remember that a lot of people will be shopping that day so be ready to get in there and get your business done before the stock runs out. If you saw something advertised for Black Friday but missed out, no worries, there is a great chance that same item will be listed at that price online for Cyber Monday.

For years people have known about Black Friday. This is the day that stores host their largest sales of the entire year. Discounts are found in every store from hardware stores to major department stores. All of this is done with Christmas shopping in mind as it is just around the corner. In 2005 a new tradition was created to follow Black Friday. That tradition has been named Cyber Monday. What is Cyber Monday? You guessed it! It is the first Monday following Thanksgiving and it is the day all of the best online shopping deals can be found.

This Black Friday it is expected shoppers will have spent a record $52.4 billion, up 16.4 percent from 2011, from Thursday through Sunday, according to a survey for the National retail Federation, conducted by online research firm BIGreasearch.

Each year the number of people who participate in Cyber Monday increases and to date it is the most active shopping day on the internet. If you are going to shop on Cyber Monday your best bet might be to jump online just after midnight, when it is officially Monday. This is because you want to be sure you grab the things you need before the online stores run out of stock. Waiting until late Monday night could cause disappointment.

Another great suggestion for Cyber Monday is to be sure and surf around for the absolute best prices. While one online store may have something marked down 50%, you might find another with that same item marked down 75%. The money you can save by shopping online on Cyber Monday is quite competitive with foot shopping on Black Friday. The other good thing about Cyber Monday is that you do not even have to leave your house to get all the best deals of the year.

If you have never shopped on Cyber Monday, let this year be your first and experience all the best savings that millions of people have been realizing for the past several years.

The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is the film all Harry Potter fans have waited 10 years to see, and the good news is that it’s worth the hype–visually stunning, action packed, faithful to the book, and mature not just in its themes and emotion but in the acting by its cast, some of whom had spent half their lives making Harry Potter movies. Part 2 cuts right to the chase: Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) has stolen the Elder Wand, one of the three objects required to give someone power over death (a.k.a. the Deathly Hallows), with the intent to hunt and kill Harry. Meanwhile, Harry’s quest to destroy the rest of the Horcruxes (each containing a bit of Voldemort’s soul) leads him first to a thrilling (and hilarious–love that Polyjuice Potion!) trip to Gringotts Bank, then back to Hogwarts, where a spectacular battle pitting the young students and professors (a showcase of the British thesps who have stolen every scene of the series: Maggie Smith’s McGonagall, Jim Broadbent’s Slughorn, David Thewlis’s Lupin) against a dark army of Dementors, ogres, and Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter, with far less crazy eyes to make this round). As predicted all throughout the saga, Harry also has his final showdown with Voldemort–neither can live while the other survives–though the physics of that predicament might need a set of crib notes to explain. But while each installment has become progressively grimmer, this finale is the most balanced between light and dark (the dark is quite dark–several familiar characters die, with one significant death particularly grisly); the humor is sprinkled in at the most welcome times, thanks to the deft adaptation by Steve Kloves (who scribed all but one of the films from J.K. Rowling’s books) and direction by four-time Potter director David Yates. The climactic kiss between Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson), capping off a decade of romantic tension, is perfectly tuned to their idiosyncratic relationship, and Daniel Radcliffe has, over the last decade, certainly proven he was the right kid for the job all along. As Prof. Snape, the most perfect of casting choices in the best-cast franchise of all time, Alan Rickman breaks your heart. Only the epilogue (and the lack of chemistry between Harry and love Ginny Weasley, barely present here) stand a little shaky, but no matter: the most lucrative franchise in movie history to date has just reached its conclusion, and it’s done so without losing its soul. –Ellen A. What’s Under the Hood
As with previous models, the PlayStation 3 160GB system features an IBM “Cell” processor and a co-developed NVIDIA graphics processor that together allow the system to perform two trillion calculations per second. Yet the 160GB system manages to improve on this with its 45nm version of the processor, which although running at the same 60+nm speed as previous PS3 versions, uses less energy. This makes the unit’s smaller size and quieter fan possible. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, the 160GB system also boasts an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TVs and projectors. (The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience) This console also provides for an extreme sound experience by supporting Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, as well as Linear PCM 7.1. Finally, it features cross connectivity with your PC network and PlayStation Portable (PSP) and its pre-installed, 160GB hard disc drive allows you to save games as well as download content from The Internet. Unlike other models of the PlayStation 3, the 160GB system does not offer backwards compatibility.

Blu-ray, PlayStation Network Downloads and Beyond
PlayStation 3 utilizes the Blu-ray disc media format, which gives you the best high-definition viewing experience on your television, by way of the format’s ability to hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. This tremendous capacity, combined with the awesome power of the system’s processor and graphics card, promises an endless stream of mind-blowing games, and other multimedia content. However, this does not mean that the PS3 is limited to Blu-ray discs – it also supports CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. In addition, PlayStation 3 system software includes BD Live support that allows you to play discs that support Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE). This means that you can also connect to the Internet while playing discs that support this format to obtain additional features. Of course, PS3 owners also receive free access to the PlayStation Network (PSN), where through the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home, they can download games, game demos, movies, and other content, as well as chat with friends, play mini-games, compete in tournaments and explore dedicated game spaces.

Sensational Controller
The Dualshock 3 wireless controller(one controller) included with The PlayStation 3 160GB system provides the most intuitive gameplay experience, with pressure sensors in each action button and the inclusion of the highly sensitive Sixaxis motion-sensing technology. Each hit, crash, and explosion is more realistic when the user feels the rumble right in the palm of their hand. It can even detect natural movements for real-time and high precision interactive play, acting as a natural extension of the user’s body. Dualshock 3 utilizes Bluetooth technology for wireless game play and the controller’s detachable USB cable to seamlessly and automatically charge the controller when connected to the PlayStation 3. By integrating all of these features into the popular PlayStation controller design, the Dualshock 3 further enhances the advanced gameplay experience only available on the PlayStation 3 system.

Synch with Your Other Sony HDMI Devices
The PlayStation 3 160GB system features HDMI + Bravia Synch functionality. Bravia Synch allows connectivity between Sony HDMI products without having to utilize multiple remote controls. This means that with the push of one button, users can control compliant Sony devices connected to your PS3 via HDMI cable.

What’s in The Box:

Acer Aspire One AO722-0473 11.6-Inch HD Netbook (Espresso Black)

Acer Aspire One AO722-0473 11.6-Inch HD Netbook (Espresso Black)

Acer Aspire One AO722-0473 11.6-Inch HD Netbook (Espresso Black)

The Acer Aspire One A0722-0473 is an 11inch netbook that is designed to be entertainment centric. It is powered by an AMD Dual Core C-60 processor and has TurboCore auto overclocking features that takes the clock speed to 1.33GHz. It has a 1MB L2 cache memory. It is paired with 2GB of DDR3 memory and 320GB storage.

The AO722 has an 11.6inch widescreen aspect ratio, making it perfect for viewing movies and videos. The display has a native resolution of 1366×768 meaning it can show HD movies at a 720p onscreen resolution. The netbook can easily run full HD movies thanks to the AMD Radeon HD 6290 graphics that comes with 256MB of dedicated memory. Combined with an overclocked processor, it would also make for some decent gaming action. This is something most netbooks would be unable to offer.

The powerful graphics and the faster processor combined make the netbook perfect for every casual user. It is certainly powerful enough to run a lot of software that wouldn’t usually run on netbooks, like Photoshop. It is also capable of handling advanced multitasking and run heavy programs simultaneously. Despite having heavy graphics and processing abilities, the A0722 boasts of 7 hours of battery life. In real life situations, you should be able to get about 4-5 hours with some gaming, WiFi and heavy multi-tab surfing thrown in. With no WiFi or gaming, the battery life should go up to 6hours and more.

The build of the Acer Aspire One A0722-0473 is fully plastic with smooth black matte finish on all parts. The back of the screen carries an Acer Aspire One watermark logo and is also completely smooth. The design is on the thick side with side firing air vents. The keys are chiclet style but are very closely set to utilize all the space there is. As a result, individual keys are larger than what you would expect in a netbook but there’s hardly any space between the keys. The arrow keys are not dedicated and they have additional functions that can accessed by modifier keys. The touchpad is smooth and supports multitouch gestures. It has a single bar style click button.

The profile of the laptop is on the bulkier side. Acer makes no attempt to make the netbook look slim. It is a purpose built machine and it has the looks of it. With the full black finish, the netbook looks quite corporate and would sit right at home on an office or college table.

The Acer Aspire One A0722-0473 has one HDMI out port that also supports HDCP. If you combine this with a wireless HDMI set up, you can easily turn this in to your entertainment hub. There are 3 USB 2.0 ports and a multi-in-1 card reader. It has Wireless-N with backward compatibility (802.11b/g/n). Customer reviews are very positive. The processing power is well appreciated and so is the portability. The keyboard also draws praises with some complaints about the touchpad being slightly hard to control at times. For those who are looking for a netbook but don’t want to compromise on power, this is definitely the right way to go.
